Here, we developed a customized framework to evaluate the circularity of some common household appliances. This framework incorporates evaluation of the material, design, disassembly and end-of-life (or end of use) criteria. We applied this method to two appliances: a cartridge printer, and a cordless drill. After dismantling and analyzing each one, we came up with a circularity score for each device. To complete the assessment, we came up with a number of modifications to make these appliances more friendly to the circular economy, helping them retain value.
